Sintweekend TV Episode + Movie

December 5th, 2008 by ThE_ED

schinkelIn de zomer is er “altijd” het programma “Zomergasten”. Deze zomer ging een van de afleveringen over een docent Sociologie aan de EUR, Willem Schinkel. U snapt wellicht waarom Edje deze man kende.

Karaoke / Cold Lazarus

March 5th, 2008 by farquaad

A few weeks ago i caught a glimpse of Deep Blue Sea, a not so special movie with some fishies. But Saffron Burrows is the one fighting off the sharks. And it is she who always makes me remember a duo of 90’s televivision series: Karaoke and Cold Lazarus.

Albert Finney in KaraokeBoth Karaoke and Cold Lazarus are written by Dennis Potter who is best known for writing The Singing Detective. BBC and Channel 4 co-produced and broadcasted the series. A unique situation, as requested by Potter before his death.

As a side effect of this situation, copyrights ownership is now totaly unclear. That means no dvd. Lucky for us, there is the internets. Tune in after the break.

Riget/The Kingdom part 1

June 20th, 2007 by *--*

ondskap!I was first planning to exhume the rotting corpse of Ochblog’s TV Thursday for this. But I decided against it.. I’ll leave it resting in peace.

That is not what can be said of the spirits inhabiting the neurosurgery ward of Riget Hospital in Lars Von Trier’s Series “Riget/The Kingdom“. Very strange series enjoyable especially for those that love weird concoctions of humor, horror, thriller, gore and hospital sit-coms. Maybe also noteworthy to mention is that it is especially recommended for people that enjoyed David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks”.

Stephan King made an american version of “The Kingdom” a few years ago. I have not seen that one but my gut feeling screams ‘Stay Away!‘.

Anyway, season one of the genuine article can be found here.

Season 2 will follow very soon!

Coming pinxter monday i will be riding the Elfstedentocht. I won’t be skating the ice between the eleven Friesian cities however. And i’ll leave my bicycle at home. I am going to ride this tocht der tochten on a motorcycle. It’s supposed to be one big traffic jam, but there’s only one way to find out.

While I will be destroying a perfectly good clutch, you guys might take the time to check out some motorcycle history.

Louder with Jools Holland

February 12th, 2007 by 2shoes

Remember that BBC2 program ‘Later with Jools Holland’? He always had a wide variety of musical guests giving their best performances. Now there’s a compilation of the loudest bands that played there ( including a great version of ‘one-armed-scissor’ by ‘at the drive-in’. )

Blogumentary

February 6th, 2007 by Maks

And it isn't even TV-thursday yet!Blogumentary playfully explores the many ways blogs are influencing our media, our politics, and our relationships. Personal political writing is the foundation of our democracy, but mass media has reduced us to passive consumers instead of active citizens. (…) The film features interviews with influential bloggers including Joe Trippi, Jeff Jarvis, Dan Gillmor, John Hinderaker, Rebecca Blood, Jason Kottke and Meg Hourihan. From the rise of Howard Dean to the fall of Dan Rather, from love at first blog to a friend’s suicidal blog post, ‘Blogumentary’ is a fresh and compelling journey into our hyperconnected existence.

Read more about it over here and over there

Here’s the direct link to the movie, or you can check it by clicking the ‘read more’ below.

Fall of Rome TV-Thursday

February 1st, 2007 by Mies Bouwman

fall of romeWhile my school teachers have always told me that Rome suddenly fell through one Barbarian invasion, just recently I had to find out this wasn’t actually the case at all.

But how did I stick to that idea anyway? Was it for Hollywood? No even French made those movies. Okay, some sites[warning:Nazi site], clearly didn’t have their facts straight, but with National Geographic posting those pictures and art like this… How did the so-called highly civilized cosmopolitan city disappear?

That Roman Culture didn’t just leave I found out because, the Byzantine Empire (the old Eastern Roman Empire) conquered Rome back.
