Vacationvlogging is my trade and i do not consider my vacation to be taken lightly so here it is.

Me and marie have spend some time deep in the heart of Brittany, an empty godforsaken place. We’ve visited several sites such as The chaos of Huelgoat, Roc trevezel and the castle of Trevarez, in the mean time we tried to locate some of my favorite hidden locations of Menhir and dolmen.

So i present to you this Flikkerlink containing the most beautiful pictures i made those days and my vlog, enjoy.

Both Karaoke and Cold Lazarus are written by Dennis Potter who is best known for writing The Singing Detective. BBC and Channel 4 co-produced and broadcasted the series. A unique situation, as requested by Potter before his death.

As a side effect of this situation, copyrights ownership is now totaly unclear. That means no dvd. Lucky for us, there is the internets.

Karaoke:

Daniel Feeld is a screenwriter with pains in his gut and a new screenplay called “Karaoke”, about a girl named Sandra who works in a seedy Karaoke bar and is murdered by a lowlife named Arthur “Pig” Mallion. But whenever Daniel looks around, real people seem to be speaking his dialogue in real situations that mirror the script, including a beautiful young girl named Sandra who works in a Karaoke bar owned by a Mr. Mallion. Meanwhile, Balmer, the film’s director, is in a spot of trouble with the leading lady of the film.

Cold Lazarus:

Writer Daniel Feeld (Albert Finney), first seen in Dennis Potter’s Karaoke, returns three centuries later as a disembodied head. While technology has advanced in the 24th Century, global corporate control has brought about an austere, antiseptic way of life. In the year 2368, the terrorist organization RON (Reality or Nothing), seeks a return to the tranquillity of earlier times. At the Masdon Science Center, a team of scientists led by Emma Porlock (Frances De La Tour) succeeds in extracting memories from Feeld’s cryogenically preserved head – memories which are, in fact, scenes from Karaoke. Aging Martina Masdon (Diane Ladd), the tyrannical owner of the Science Center, and international media mogul David Siltz (Henry Goodman) see the potential for the commercial exploitation of Feeld’s memories. As Siltz puts it, “Who would want made-up stories from a hack when you can mainline into the real thing? At last, privacy has a true market value.”

For those who have seen all of Deadw00t and are waiting for the third season of Dexter, while you’re waiting, this is a classic not to be missed.

“Introduction: 17 years ago a small recording studio, TOP SHELF, located in the basement of a brownstone in the East Village section of New York, was looted during the Thompkins Square riots of 1988, displacing the recordings of many soon-to-be Hip Hop stars. The studio had been the meeting place for many rappers, neighborhood kids, and producers that would later be responsible for the greatest period of the Hip Hop age, “The Golden Era.” A search commenced soon after the recordings were lost, but nothing was ever found. So sought after were the tapes, they soon acheived Holy Grail status amongst Hip Hop circles. Despite years of searching, and dozens of hopeless crusades, the tapes remained lost. No one was quite sure who took them or where they were… until now.

After an extensive investigation and search that lasted two years, the recordings have finally been recovered by Fab 5 Freddy and myself (Benjy Grinberg). They were found dozenss of miles from the site of TOP SHELF in an abandoned strage faciilty in North Jersey [woot! Jersey represent!]. …We sought after the lost recordings of TOP SHELF because they were rumored to be among the hottest songs from that era, and we thought it was a tragedy that the world never got to hear them. It turns out that these two-inch tapes are truly a treasure chest–a time capsule of the energy and excitement of 1988 Hip Hop.”

From Ikiro I got two sets of flashing bicycleledlights and Beneger showed up with a so called vosim. For those of you who ever met him: he often brings something along with him that makes sound. (From now on that will be Balou). And then there was Choco who took a video of the bleep thingie.

This bleeping apparatus is an optically controllable vosim, a voice simulator, a simplistical optical vocal chord simulator.

The vosim looks like a lolbak but is really intended to be a musical instrument, an advanced application of oscillator sync. What that means exactly, I don’t know, being a real alpha, but it has to do something with converting light pulses into soundwaves. So the optical input is transformed into a simulation of the voice.
You see? This serious digital ernst.

The insides of the box are (kinda) connected like this:

Beneger built it all by himself, from scratch.

“From a musical point of view I like instruments that hover between electronics and voices. Thats why I made a vosim in a simple way. The sensors were bought by a friend of mine. I found the casing. The precision sawing took most of my time. Drilling has to be done slowly in metal. A Dremel doesn’t do the job, so I drill by hand. First little holes and then widening the [s]goatse[/s] gap. The making of a fitting rubber inside in the flight case took up a lot of time too. That one didn’t turn out to be very crafty, but quite safe”.

A really ambachtelijk gefixte thingie, and so lovely a thingie at it, too!

So, to continue the merelroze, we freaked around with the gadget a little, until I got the idea to use Ikiro’s gifts as a stimulus for the object. And whooh00t, did we get a feedback!

This is a communal post, made together with Choco and Beneger and ofFffff course wouldn’t have existed without the gifts of ikiro and love of farquaad /Oscar winner modus.

That is not what can be said of the spirits inhabiting the neurosurgery ward of Riget Hospital in Lars Von Trier’s Series “Riget/The Kingdom“. Very strange series enjoyable especially for those that love weird concoctions of humor, horror, thriller, gore and hospital sit-coms. Maybe also noteworthy to mention is that it is especially recommended for people that enjoyed David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks”.

Stephan King made an american version of “The Kingdom” a few years ago. I have not seen that one but my gut feeling screams ‘Stay Away!‘.

Zojuist bereikte mij het trieste bericht dat het Oost-Groninger dujo Roef en Marian naar goed Volendams voorbeeld het bijltje erbij neergooit.

Het succesverhaal van het illustere dujo mag bekend zijn; nadat ze de voltallige jury van talentenshow ‘de x-factor’ verbijsterd hadden achtergelaten en een succesvolle act in de lachbandshow van trekpop Jensen waren ze welgeziene gasten in uitverkochte winkelcentra en voetbalstadions, van Gulpen tot Delfzijl.

Naar nu blijkt is juist dit succes tevens de ondergang geworden van dit immens populaire zangdujo: zoals zo vaak was de verdeling van de inkomsten, met ongetwijfeld minstens 6 nullen achter de komma, het breekpunt. De geruchten als zou een te goed bevallen partnerruilsessie met het dujo Lucas en Gea de oorzaak zijn van deze onverwachte gebeurtenis, wordt door beiden met klem ontkend.

De datum voor het afscheidsconcert is nog niet bekend, tevens spreken de geruchten over eventuele solocarrieres elkaar tegen. Het landschap van Nederland Muziekland zal nooit meer hetzelfde zijn. Eerst wordt ik via de bsc gewaar dat BZN niet meer is, nu dit. Straks wordt nog bekend dat Jovink en de Voederbietels er na dit jaar mee stoppen.
In dat geval gooi ik mezelf van het Hilton.

If you liked “Stapelfahrer Klaus“, you’ll probably also like “Shake Hands With Danger“. An amazingly scored safety instruction film from the early seventies made for people working with heavy machinery. The music in the movie is made specifically for this production and is enormously funny. The song is sung by a Johnny Cash-soundalike calling himself ‘three finger joe’. He also seems to be the narrator of the film….

So is this movie an autobiography then? Well, maybe. The movie certainly consists of Takeshi’s own view on the world of cinema, but it’s also made in his own fashion. No wonder the worlds of both Takeshi and Kitano are becoming one more and more. (Do you still follow me, because this is where I lost it sometimes.)

In “Takeshis‘” Kitano has certainly put some humour, maybe more than I even know because sometimes this movies strikes me, as a Western European, with its bizzare changes and scenes. Some are obviously molded after the bizzare situations in real life cinema, some reflect the bizzare situations one can find oneself in, others are just too bizarre to understand for me I guess. (Maybe too alien for any non-Japanese person?) The director has certainly made an excellent piece of cinema with this movie, but sometimes I’m still not sure if the part that I think are funny are serious and vice versa. Then again, this reflects the split in the two personalities even more.

While I will be destroying a perfectly good clutch, you guys might take the time to check out some motorcycle history.

In 1991 John Britten took his hand built motorcycle to Daytona to compete in the Battle of the Twins race. The bike finished second. So he went home to New Zealand and started on what would be a legend of a motorcycle and probably the most succesful home built motorcycle ever. The plan was to win the 1992 race.

The new bike was full of new and non-traditional technology. The most notabale were the extensive use of carbon fibres (in the early 90s still an exotic material) and the Hossack-type front suspension (another link).

The Hossack front suspension is like a double wishbone system. And also, as impact on the skyrocket, the fork part of this thing was made out of carbon.

And then, ofcourse, there is the design of the thing. Designed and made without any computers. The V-1000 was displayed at several museums, amongst others the Guggenheim Museum.

The build of the Britten V-1000, as the bike was named, was filmed and made into a documentary. The voice-over is pretty cheesy, but there is some great footage of John Britten and his fellow builders figuring out carbon fibres, cooling down cast engine components with water from the swimming pool and of course the race in Daytona.

They recorded the excellent “WideSpread Bloodshed, Love Runs Red” LP together and everything looked rosy for this band! Mike Clark (the mastermind of the band) had already started to write material for a second album when two members decide to leave the band. After some searching no replacers were hired and Mike Clark was invited to join Suicidal Tendencies, taking most of his new compositions, which by incident made the big breakthrough album for Suicidal. (”How Will I Laugh Tomorrow…“). Some of the No Mercy tracks from “Widespread Bloodshed” were actually re-recorded for Suicidal’s “Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit”-album (a strange mish-mash of tracks sold for the price of a maxi-single. Always one of my personal favourites, mainly because of the No Mercy tracks).

“Widespread Bloodshed, Love Runs Red” is nowadays a pretty sought after article… It has still not been released on CD!
