R.I.P. Daisy Dynamite

June 8th, 2007 by Maks

The (in)famous Dutch transvestite Daisy Dynamite passed away last tuesday. It’s a big mistake we didn’t dedicate our last ‘Tuesday Tunesday’ to her and I hereby apologize.
To honour her: here’s Botch-A-Me.
Rest In Peace Daisy and maybe have a little bit of fun with the late Mr. Dröge.

Bloody Hell

May 31st, 2007 by Maks

bl00dw00t!A very terrifying report at yesterdays news (English, Dutch) in The Netherlands. Up north in the city of Groningen four men are in custody, suspected of deliberately injecting homosexual men with HIV-infected blood after they had been GHB drugged and raped. Meanwhile the ticker is already at twelve men.
Do we need to say more? Straight or queer, I don’t give a bloody (/Seth) fuck. Insane people are everywhere unfortunately. And although I can understand their disappointment in life, reports like this simply make me feel terribly sick.
No fun.

October 30-31, 1995.
Location: the legendary and infamous Club RoXY, Amsterdam

Joost van Bellen, artistic director of RoXY and popular DJ at that time organises his fifth Loveball. The Loveballs were meant to bring more attention on AIDS and to raise money. But most of all it was a reason to dance yo ass off for a couple of days. In close cooperation with magazine Revu, a compilation of the event was released on CD and mixed by DJ van Bellen.
You see, HIV can be posi+ive and fun.

Pool Music

p00lw00t!No way I’m going to try to write down the Stones history here in my own words, as it already has been done hundreds of times.
Or should I? Hm, well…
Maybe I should just shorten their history a little and bring it back to it’s pure essence? Let’s give that a try.

It’s spring 1962. Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones meets Keith Richards and Mick Jagger at the (therefor) famous Ealing Jazz Club in London. He’s 20 years of age at that time. Together they raise ‘The Rolling Stones’ and do their first gig in July 1962 at the Marqueeclub in London. A supergroup is born. Jones style of life was rough: busloads of drugs passed by, but – and this is the most important part of my (ahem) Stones biography – he managed to teache Richards and Jagger how to play a credible white man’s blues.
Seven years and a broken heart later (Richards took his girlfriend Anita Pallenberg) a nice dose of drugs leaves Jones floating in a pool, unable to save hisself.
Brian Jones got only 27 years old.

Paradiso Posters In Fantasio

April 26th, 2007 by Maks

letterneukersw00t!
An exhibition of Paradiso posters by graphic designer Martin Kaye will be opening tommorrow at the Dutch ‘Nationaal Pop Instituut’ in Amsterdam.
Paradiso, Netherlands most famous and legendary rocktemple, had all their posters inbetween 1972 and 1983 designed by Kaye only. Kaye, autodidact, got famous because of his own typographical language, large hand-cutted fonts and ‘rainbow’ or split-colour printing.
In 1989 Kaye got tragically murdered in his own house as part of a robbery. Nowadays his legacy is in good hands with ‘De Stichting Martin Kaye Alphabet Index and Library’.

About the expo

Expo runs ’till the 1st of July @ Nationaal Pop Instituut, Prins Hendrikkade 142, Amsterdam. Opening hours: Monday – Friday from 10.00 ’till 17.00

More info about Kaye’s life and work can be found here and more can be found here (both in Dutch). A superb large collection Paradiso posters is shown here

Update:
boozeroony added more delicious poster eye-candy in the comments from another rocktemple called Vera in Grunn’ (not designed by Martin Kaye).

Robert Anton Wilson (Discordian Überdenkert)

January 12th, 2007 by nodog

RAWI’ve been so busy lately I didn’t even notice that one of my big heroes has passed away yesterday; Robert Anton Wilson, may he live forever.
Luckily he has left behind a big legacy to just do that. Some of this legacy is to be found in torrents (here or here for instance).
Maybe a bit too much to choose from so here’s a small selection:
Maybe Logic is not too bad a try at a documentary about his life and ideas. Though both are much too broad to be caught in 80 minutes. (demonoid | torrentspy)
Another way to get to know him upclose and personal is in his always amusing and questionsraising lectures (demonoid | torrentspy)

Still, it seems best to just read some of his books: Illuminatus Trilogy, Cosmic Trigger, Right Where You Are Sitting Now are just three of them that pop up in my mind at the moment. Fucking excellent evidence of his brilliant mind and kind soul, warming the hearts of us mortals still stuck in this reality.
All Hail Eris!

The KING is dead – Long Live his Funky People

December 26th, 2006 by gast!

ripBesides touring the earth and performing magically good shows and also record albums, singles, soundtracks, going to jail and what not, Mr. James Brown (God rest his Soul) also owned one, two or three record companies. (Funky) People was one of them and daaaaamn, did some hot shit occur from there. All in all, 3 compilation disks were issued during the nineties; here they are.
