When an assistant police inspector in Kagoshima looked out and saw what looked like a Japanese schoolgirl, sailor uniform and all, trying to steal his wife’s underwear, no doubt he knew right away that something just wasn’t quite right. The off-duty cop was out the door in a flash in hot pursuit of the thief, who he collared after a short foot chase.

The “schoolgirl” turned out to be Junichi Uchikura, a male part-timer at a pachinko parlor.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the schoolgirl uniform Uchikura was wearing had been stolen from another residence earlier the same day.

As an anthropologist with a strong interest in social online communities (or virtual communities) I have a fieldday almost everyday. Because it seems like every day a new community site appears online. Today a friend of mine mailed me this new community website with our famous sex pervert and animal lover Martin Gaus.

In 1991 John Britten took his hand built motorcycle to Daytona to compete in the Battle of the Twins race. The bike finished second. So he went home to New Zealand and started on what would be a legend of a motorcycle and probably the most succesful home built motorcycle ever. The plan was to win the 1992 race.

The new bike was full of new and non-traditional technology. The most notabale were the extensive use of carbon fibres (in the early 90s still an exotic material) and the Hossack-type front suspension (another link).

The Hossack front suspension is like a double wishbone system. And also, as impact on the skyrocket, the fork part of this thing was made out of carbon.

And then, ofcourse, there is the design of the thing. Designed and made without any computers. The V-1000 was displayed at several museums, amongst others the Guggenheim Museum.

The build of the Britten V-1000, as the bike was named, was filmed and made into a documentary. The voice-over is pretty cheesy, but there is some great footage of John Britten and his fellow builders figuring out carbon fibres, cooling down cast engine components with water from the swimming pool and of course the race in Daytona.

First, we postulate that if souls exist, then they must have some mass. If they do, then a mole of souls can also have a mass. So, at what rate are souls moving into hell and at what rate are souls leaving? I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for souls entering hell, lets look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to hell. Since there are more than one of these religions and people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all people and all souls go to hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change in volume in hell. Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in hell to stay the same, the ratio of the mass of souls and volume needs to stay constant.

1. So, if hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter hell, then the temperature and pressure in hell will increase until all hell breaks loose, meaning that hell is exothermic.

2. Of course, if hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until hell freezes over, meaning that hell is endothermic.

So which is it? If we accept the postulate given me by Theresa Banyan during our Freshman year “that it will be a cold night in hell before I sleep with you,” and take into account the fact that I still have not succeeded in having sexual relations with her, then #2 cannot be true. Therefore, hell is exothermic.

Koen is a very down to earth kind of guy, after returning form his favorite cafe in Domburg (Kafe Domburg) he saw something above the field next to the windmill. Now he is asking you to explain what he saw. The picture is sent to the local ESA Space photographer Jobse and tomorrow (today) he will try to explain it. Ow it hovered….

This weekend the guys south of our main rivers celebrate Carnival. Some others on in the north-east have their own Carnival but according to Zoute they will have sex too. Hmmm, I will celebrate it above the rivers in a small snackbar near the German border. A place which is owned by two (Chinese born) sisters.

The elusive sex hints, the sister thing, the Chinese Newyear (year of the pig, 4705) this sunday and the fact that Carnival is “De omgedraaide wereld” freely translated as “the world up side down” inspired me to post a certain weekendmovie from the other side of the Globe (from our perspective):

A Tale of Two Sisters.

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) by Kim Ji-Woon, famous of his strong sense of visual design, is one of the best South Korean movies I’m aware of. It’s a psychological horror film and both the highest-grossing Korean horror film and the first to be screened in American theatres.
 

Whilst this is certainly a horror film, there are few scares, and it is the complex, ambiguous plot which sticks in the mind, of which there can be several different interpretations. This is the kind of film which deserves, and indeed inspires, repeated viewings in order to unravel its intriguing mysteries, giving elusive hints and clues rather than the usual barrage of cheap tricks which have ruined so many others.
