Burundi revisited
July 3rd, 2008 by Beneger
In my previous pots, I linked a youtube containing Neil Steiphenson’s electronic overdubs over the famous Burundi drumtrack from may 1967. I mentioned Joni Mitchels variant. It was dubbed over the B-side of Neil’s 1971 single. Joni used guitar, voice and minimoog, and called it “The Jungle Line”. Jungle avant la lettre… High quality stereo youtube dans les more. Millionair in Zimbabwe
March 10th, 2008 by freek

At the end of this month elections take place in Zimbabwe. Robert Mugabe (84), since independence in 1980 the only ruler, will do anything to win this elections. And chances are, although the opposition is tougher than ever, he’ll win again. Despite the utter mess Mugabe turned Zimbabwe in.
Life expectancy in Zimbabwe has dramatically declined since 1990. It used to be 60 for a man, now it is only 37, the lowest in the world. Unemployment is at about 80 percent, inflation rate is at a staggering 100.000 percent. One USDollar equals 25 million Zim Dollars.
I visited Zimbabwe in 2001. Even then there were big differences in exchangerates the first week en the second week. And about then Mugabe began throwing white families of of there farms.

Needlevlog like FranklinDisco

FranklinDisco is almost an U-tube needlevlogger:
I’m a 23 year old disco lover. I discovered disco in 1997 when I got a 70’s music compilation CD for my 13th birthday. I’ve been hooked ever since.

The torrents in the mentioned posts are, ofcourse, dead as a pier. *–* promised me a dvd with the episode, but who wants to wait for that? Not Youtube. So here we go, for your viewing pleasure: LolaDaMusica, Drum & Bass, de jazz van de jaren 90

Tex And The Horseheads
February 7th, 2008 by Maks

One of the few pictures forever stored in the back of my mind is the one above of Texacala Jones made by Lex van Rossen, the famous Dutch photographer. Van Rossen, who sadly died of cancer almost a year ago, took this picture (one of his personal favourites) at Pandora’s Music Box, an underground music festival in The Netherlands, October 1985. Read more specific info on Pandora and this photo here and more general info on van Rossen here.
Texacala Jones was the sexy screaming siren of Tex And The Horseheads, an eighties cowpunk combo pretty well-known because of it’s live reputation and their explosive cocktail of punk, country, rock, blues and lots of booze. When mentioning TATH, Jeffrey Lee Pierce’s Gun Club is never far away. Partly because of their equal behaviour at the liquor front, but mainly because of the musical affinity between both bands. You could say that The Gun Club was playing their bluesy country rockmusic straight from out of the swamps, as TATH stood at the banks of it, doing their own dirty thing.
