One of the best laboratories for developing the out of date super8 films, has moved to my town. Good service, fair price and nice products.

And now they even have a load of other peoples films on the site!
Watch people travelling almost empty streets on crackly new bridges towards immense steam boats heading for Europe with nazi-flags in the masts. Or zeppelins. Or ostrich carts on Scheveningen. Or pretended flights to the North pole. From the beginning of last century unto this one.
Enjoy!

If you liked “Stapelfahrer Klaus“, you’ll probably also like “Shake Hands With Danger“. An amazingly scored safety instruction film from the early seventies made for people working with heavy machinery. The music in the movie is made specifically for this production and is enormously funny. The song is sung by a Johnny Cash-soundalike calling himself ‘three finger joe’. He also seems to be the narrator of the film….

There are better versions already available but this one downs in less than an hour and i don’t care about the visual quality in this case anyway.
There’s already a lot said about this documentary and i don’t need to repeat all that but these people scare the shit out of me, which is probably the way they want it anyway.
Personally i didn’t need anymore confirmation in thinking that we should prepare ourselves for a ‘holy’ war of some sort, this is just a friendly reminder.
I’m only about 1.70m tall, but still I had to fold myself in a seat in the Oude Luxor some Filmsfestivals ago to see 2005s’ Takeshis’ by Kitano Takeshi. It’s an interesting, though sometimes hard to follow movie about succesfull actor Takeshi who meets his unsuccesfull counterpart Kitano.

So is this movie an autobiography then? Well, maybe. The movie certainly consists of Takeshi’s own view on the world of cinema, but it’s also made in his own fashion. No wonder the worlds of both Takeshi and Kitano are becoming one more and more. (Do you still follow me, because this is where I lost it sometimes.) Continue reading ‘Och’s Monday Movie: Takeshis’’

There’s a saying in Afrkaanz that goes… ”Net harse en dwarse skryf hulle name op mure en glasse” which means only fools and idiots write their names on walls and glasses.
Last month ‘BOMB IT’ was presented at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
”BOMB IT is the explosive new documentary from Jon Reiss investigating the most subversive and controversial art form currently shaping international youth culture: graffiti. BOMB IT will be the most comprehensive film project about graffiti and street art done to date and for years to come, featuring original and rare footage from the top graffiti writers of modern times, from Cornbread and Taki 183 to Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, and up-and-coming artists pushing the boundaries of this longstanding artistic and social movement.”

..didn’t feel that bad, so I poured myself a cup of coffee, lit up a cigaret and started watching:
Martin Scorsese presents The Blues

The Blues™ anchors a multi-media celebration that raises awareness of the blues and its contribution to American culture and music worldwide.
The Blues™, executive produced by Martin Scorsese, consists of seven feature-length films that capture the essence of the blues while exploring how this art form so deeply influenced music and people the world over.
The series begins with the journey from Africa to the Mississippi Delta — where the music grew from slaves’ field hollers, work songs and spirituals — then travels up the Mississippi River to the juke joints, house parties and recording studios of Memphis and Chicago, and culminates with the emotional embrace of this African-American creation by musicians and people throughout the world.

Todays movie is directed by J.X. Williams. Little is known, but often he is reffered as the best kept secret of Hollywood. In the sixties he produced a number of movies full of (s)exploitation.
