Coming Wednesday the yearly IFFR is here again with a bunch of newly launched films. The theme of this year is “emptyness”. Looking at the new logo which lacks color, this is quite obvious. A couple of films will be displayed on buildings and short&long films are more mixed in theaters. The complete program is here. And the trailers here. The Grunn’ connection.
Tips and recommendations are weklom
Lots of feminist roadmovies and films about gay cowboys eating pudding. Not much left to watch (certainly not as much as last year and even that year was worse than the year before). Still… the few films I did see were mostly excellent.
IFFR is nearly over. Yesterday I watched my last movie from the 15 I managed to grab this year (not that much compared to other enthousiasts mind!).
More than enough movies to manage to sit next to a whole lot of people who annoyed the crap out of me though!
During the more lengthy drama films (for instance Hana and After This Our Exile) I had enough time to think of some categories to put these people in so here goes:
Here a small update of the IFFR. We had a look at the videoroom @ the Hilton Hotel. It is possible there to watch for free a range of long and short movies. We actually saw nobody do that, rather “sleeping” seemed to be hip for both people hanging in the room and on the film screens. Jup, cult films didn’t do under for their image.

Currently the IFFR is in full effect. The OchCult Corner couldn’t leave behind, so we present three short movies which perfectly combines dark musick and visuals and where the story has to develop in your brains.
Warning: all movies are save for work and stomach!
First we start with “Flood” of director Silke Witzsch. After this colourful flick it is time to enter the darkness with the second screening “The Chair”, directed by aE3. This movie proofs that also a acoustic chair can be very depressing.
We end the evening with André Werner’s “Daughter of Dementia”, an atmospheric mixture of dark musick with b/w film footage. Showing all of which the OchCult Corner is about. As said the stories are made up by yourself!
This kicks off a new season @ the OchCult Corner, in which we will further grave into the cruel depths of underground movie making. Keep hanging on!

Chocotofferts:
* Einst süße Heimat (Beyond the Forest) :
Unique, retro and unknown history.
* D.O.A.P. (Death of a President) :
Especially because has been banned by theaters in the US itself, which is odd.
nodog:
Can’t say much about the films yet cause I haven’t seen most of them but here’s a couple I definitely will try not to miss.
* The Host
I loved the debutfilm of this director and I’m pretty sure this will be one of the best films of the festival.
* Any (short) film by Tscherkassky, for instance Instructions for a Light and Sound Machine
* Asian gangster flicks, can’t get enough of them. Election 1 and 2 seem okay but there’s loads more (see program)
ThE_ED:
This IFFR I’m off to the following movies for sure:
* D.O.A.P. (Death of a President) : Just like choco I’m eager to see what will happen when bush gets killed.
* A nice Finnish movie in the mix offcourse; Rock ‘n Roll never Dies.
* A hongkong based gangstermovie; always fun and excitement, I hope. So I’m off to Election (Hei she hui) as well.
* Then, a priest and a kid in an animation movie about the pr0n industry. I’m not sure what that’s gonna be like, but I’ll see it all in Princess.
* And finally, for now; Freesia – Bullet over Tears, sounds cool huh, I’m all up for some interesting cinema.
* I’m now going to Paprika as well and;
* I’m going to Nightmare Detective, whoohoo!
