Klassieker in m’n favoriete genre: dystopische sci-fi. Speelt zich af in een tijd die de onze zou kunnen zijn dus geen gekke ruimteschepen en futuristische toestanden (hoewel dat af en toe ook best prettig om te zien is maar dat terzijde).

Misschien dat het plot als enigszins simplistisch kan worden opgevat maar dat wordt ruimschoots vergoed door de geweldige sfeer, prima regie en akteerprestaties.

Nog wat associaties betreffende dit meesterwerkje: David Icke lijkt zijn hele theorie op deze film gebaseerd te hebben.
De film zelf lijkt dan weer aardig wat dingetjes opgepikt te hebben uit de Illuminatus trilogie (en dan voornamelijk het begrip fnords).

Down te loaden in verschillende formaten. Ik ben gegaan voor de complete DVD (incl subs). Ook avi is ruimschoots beschikbaar maar dus niet vooraf getest.

Aart Tuynman vind ontgooglen maar niks (zie comments aldaar). Waarom zou je je ook schamen voor je eigen naam op internet als je een nazi bent met een obsessie voor tienerseks met kleurlingen?

En wat maakt het uit als een toekomstige werkgever dit filmpje van je tegenkomt?

Als je denkt alle goede series te hebben gezien komt gelukkig Carnivale op je pad. Deadw00t en The Wire waren natuurlijk al fantastische HBO series, deze voegt zich comfortabel in het rijtje.
Een beetje de sfeer van The Kingdom en Twin Peaks (vooral omdat die dwerg meedoet) gekruisd met Deadw00t.
Lijkt me voldoende aanbeveling om het eens te checken.

Nina Paley intertwines her own pinkbird broken heart story with the ancient stories of the Rmayana, the habit of debating the true versions of it and the beautiful smartful songs of 1920’s jazz vocalist Annette Hanshaw -”cheeks like peaches and a voice of honey“.

Completely animated in different styles matching the storylines, this is one mesmerizing and well done love therapy. The present-day break up of animator Nina finds connects flawless with the story of Sita, a goddess separated from her Lord and husband Rama, all bound together by the heart yearnings of Anette Hanshaw.
Cartoonist Paley wants to release the animation 100% DRM-free, but in order to do so, she has to raise $50,000 to pay the holders of some of the musical compositions used in the film. So if you want to download a high definition version of Sita sings the blues, you can give a donation via Channel Thirteen, where you can see the movie in small screen too. If you want, you can even order a DVD-packaging. Plain donation support for the free release of this film can be made thru here, that is, if you want the googles to have your credit card info. Alas, I couldn’t find a Paypal donation possibility.

Aangezien er geen nieuw seizoen meer zou komen had ik niet gecheckt voor nieuwe afleveringen van de beste komische serie ooit (okee, er zijn meer kandidaten voor die titel, persoonlijke mening etc etc).
Nu blijkt echter dat er in december vorig jaar, als opmaat voor de komende film, nog een enkele aflevering is gemaakt; “Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys“. Het fijne is dat dat ook nog eens de beste aflevering ooit blijkt te zijn. Wat een finale voor deze prachtserie!

Iets met blauwgeverfde indianen die een gebouw op een heuvel in moesten, daar het hart eruit gesneden en de kop er af gehakt, die een lang trap naar beneden donderde waar andere indianen er een feestje mee ging vieren. En toen iets met en zondverduistering en 1 van die indianen werd een soort mc gyver en maakte zn achtervolgeers allemaal dood. uiteraard geen aftiteling dus weet de titel niet. iemand?

The always cool Lord Sjakie pointed me onto this one yesterday evening: “Such Hawks, Such Hounds: Scenes from the American Hard Rock Underground“. A great movie about all those bands that are misguidingly called either doom or stoner.  Then again this movie also takes on a bit of a wider view and it also includes modern day psychedelic bands Comets On Fire and Bardo Pond to the lot..  which (to me) makes totally sense. Loads of good bits with people from Sunn O))), Kyuss, Melvins, High On Fire, Sleep.. etc etc. Just fucking get it here and watch it!! ‘Cause I say so! (btw: Sjakie probably hasn’t seen it himself, yet)

Gisteren zomaar tegengekomen op m’n hd. Random aangeklikt en enorm genoten. Geen aktie, geen geweldig plot, gewoon wat karakters die hun ding doen. Verder iets met dwergen en treinen maar eigenlijk doet dat er allemaal niet toe.

One of my favourite subjects in my quite dismal high school time was chemistry. Nothing more fun than stealing some chemicals & making nasty little explosions on the way home from school.  I was recently told by a 17 year old boy that this is still common practice! So there still is hope for the youth of today!! 

The people at the science department of university of Nottingham also enjoy explosions and they also found out that Youtube is the best medium to show your explosions, especially to 17 year old boys! So they devised the Period Table Of Videos! Have fun!
