Loose Tails

In 1987 kreeg ik van een vriend die een jaar in Amerika had gezeten het boek ‘Loose Tails’ van Berkely Breathed. Nooit van gehoord, maar het bleek een geweldige strip! (Ed, let je op!)

Het gaat over de kleine Amerikaanse gemeenschap ‘Bloom County’ (met een eigen wiki-entry). Milo Bloom en zijn pinguin Opus zijn min of meer de hoofdrolspelers.

Opus

Het is een heel politieke strip, maar wel leuk (in ieder geval in de jaren 80). Van 1980 tot 1989 verscheen de strip dagelijks in de Washington Post en wereldwijd in meer dan 1.000 andere kranten. Berke Breathed kreeg voor zijn strip de Pulitzer Prize. Loose Tails is nog te koop bij Amazon. Meer info over Berkely Breathed hier en hier.
Breathed maakt nog steeds strips met onder meer Opus in de hoofdrol.

It’s time again for the Stripdagen Haarlem! Every year a great event for lovers of art, music, black lines, graphics and cult.
The home style of the festival this year is delivered by Roel Smit, also known as one of the lead singers of the legendary salon punk band Human Alert. Next to the whole festivals’ housestyle, he will also design the festival beer and will present his book “Rock and Roel” at the Patronaat in Harlem. I shall probably not attend this evening because of my expected personal delivery of vl0gje, but if he/she is still in the womb, I’ll be attending the festivals’ day programme.
Ikiro, gast and IPM alert: one of the themes this year is wheels and bicycles in the special.


My personal favorites:

* Built to Expose at the Jopenkerk: an exhibit of skatedecks by people like Hein de Kort, Erik Kriek, Femke Hiemstra, Luuk Bode, Peter Pontiac, Angelique, Typex, Def P, Vince and Shamrock
* Exhibit ‘Jazz & bulles’ at the Kunstcentrum Haarlem: “Music for the eyes”
* work of Roel Smit will be shown also at Lijstenmakerij Keppel
* maybe interesting with the Nekschot affaire in mind: exhibit in Café De lift: ‘Wat zeur je nou? Distriminatie verstript’
And then off course the beurzen will be of special interest to attend. Next to the terraces at the Grote Markt.

I think my site just became obsolete!! Check outh the new southparkstudios site where you can now watch all the episodes online. How cool is that? Almost like They recently did for The Daily Show, only better.
I just got this link concerning the networks shift in attitude, for the interrested ones. I honestly feel that this is the future for TV networks, so I am thrilled to be witnessing the implementation of this philosophy where my favorite show is concerned. This is not to say that I’m going anywhere though, but if this site is here to stay, I will be redefining my site to concentrate on the things they don’t provide, rather than try to compete, which would be both futile and pointless.

A good week ago in the Bloeddorst comments i mentioned the Ars Macabra Holandica exhibition.

A unique exhibition, bringing together Dutch comic-artists, illustrators, animators, photographers, designers, sculptors and painters, all of them sharing a love for the bizarre, the horrific and the fantastic. 

So Ama and i went to the opening to drink some free beer and admire the work of these comic-artists, illustrators, animators, photographers, designers, sculptors and painters. And of course we took some photos, so you can see for yourself. If you like, the exhibition is open until the 29th of april.
Also check out the garage sale the Chiellerie. Only during this easterweekend.
