Big W00t for Tele2!

Written by Roach on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 (34)

w00t!
Although i heard about a lot of problems with Tele2, i just couldn’t resist their offer. For the same price i paid for a 4 Mbit account with XS4ALL they offered me a 10 Mbit account complete with telephoneline and a free laptop. Untill today i kept my fingers crossed, but this morning there was a UPS delivery guy at my door who handed me a box. And there it was my EXTRA FREE laptop. So faster internet, no more KPN bills and an EXTRA FREE laptop for me. And it was al delivered within the timeframe they mentioned.

If you got nothing to do tonight you might like to watch Dr. Strangelove. A great comedy from Stanley Kubrick with the hilarious Peter Sellers.

cosmic rose

Although it’s old news i some how couldn’t resist posting this.

“In January 2002, a dull star in an obscure constellation suddenly became 600,000 times more luminous than our Sun, temporarily making it the brightest star in our Milky Way galaxy. The mysterious star, called V838 Monocerotis, has long since faded back to obscurity. But observations by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope of a phenomenon called a “light echo” around the star have uncovered remarkable new features. These details promise to provide astronomers with a CAT-scan-like probe of the three-dimensional structure of shells of dust surrounding an aging star.”

Vista my ass!

A lot has been sad about the graphical features in Windhoos Vista. These features suck the paint of your house compared to the features in Beryl.

The Beryl project is a window manager for Gnu/Linux operating systems which makes use of your 3D graphics card to give your desktop some cool eyecandy features.

On my search for nice Free Software i stumbled upon Stellarium. A great Open Source project which shows our universe in a nice graphical way. It’s maybe not as detailed in information as Kstars, which is a stargazers program for Gnu/Linux, it shure beats it graphicly. It comes in the usual flavours Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

Since it’s gonna be a cloudy night in Holland you can watch the stars with Stellarium. Happy stargazing!

Portable Movies

Gadgets
As the most inactive blogger at ochblog i felt it was time to do a little posting again, so here goes.

Since a couple of months i am the proud owner of a Qtek 9100. It’s a nice little phone/Pda with a little QWERTY keyboard and the usual crap like a camera. On my quest for some nice software i found out it was possible to watch complete movies on my new gadget. This required some additional memory so first i bought some memory cards. The movies have to be about 200 MB for good quality so on a 512 MB i can place 2 movies.

To view the movies on my phone i installed TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player). This is a nice little program which can play numerous kind of media files including Divx/Xvid and runs on OS Palm and Windows Mobile.

To shrink your movies to a portable size you can use PocketDivXEncoder or Auto Gordian Knot.

Here are two movies made with one of these programs (Demonoid):

The Bourne Identity | The Bourne Supremacy

Remember they were made for a PDA so don’t complain about the resolution, which is 320×144.
