Hoei! Supersnel pianospel [/rijm] alert! Door te veel op de internets rond te hangen en veel muziekmuik willen beluisteren kom je nog wel eens wat leuks tegen en deze wil ik jullie niet onthouden: ZZZ. Nee, niet zZz uit Amsterdam maar ZZZ uit Australië. Ze houden zich (nu nog) voornamelijk bezig met remixen. De vergelijking met Justice is gauw gemaakt maar hun trademark is die piano.

De heren (Inge is ook een meneer, jawel) en dame van het weledelgeleerde muziekblog Eclectro houden een verkiezing. Of U zich er ook tegenaan zou willen bemoeien. Ik hoef natuurlijk niet te vertellen, en JayJay (JaapJoop voor intimi) met mij, dat Daft Punk’s Alive 2007 natuurlijk de überkoningdansplaat van dit jaar is!

Hoei! Back by dope demand! (Nou ja, back by Sifco demand dan. Hij wist niet meer wat te kopen).

Niet alles is even fris uit de doos maar, naar mijn bescheiden mening, zeker wel het beluisteren waard. (Behalve dan als je ‘t niks vind). Geen door Herejezus gehoste previews meer daar ik mijn login kwijt ben en we tegenwoordig van iedere zichzelf respecterende artiest wel een MySpace kunnen vinden. Wellicht dat ik albums bespreek die hier al láng de revue hebben gepasseerd: sorry! Maar ik las van de week in de Triv’ dat als je alles op de interwebs wilt lezen je na 1 dag alweer 1 jaar verder van je doel verwijderd bent dan toen je begon, dus bij deze.

Om de cock-up van *–* van gisteravond een beetje goed te maken: nog maar een postje, hachee!

Shadow had een tijdje terug zijn fans opgeroepen een clip te maken bij zijn ongeloveloos fijne liedje “This Time (I’m Gonne Try It My Way)“. De uitslag is binnen en de 21-jarige Oekranees Mykola Dosenko heef gewonnen. Proficiat!

Gisteravond was het de eerste LOOS, de “clubavond” van de Tilburgse 013, van het jaar en kregen we bijzonder veel waar voor ons 3,50 geld. C-Mon & Kypski mochten de Kleine Zaal op z’n kop zetten.
Het optreden stond in het teken van het vorig jaar verschenen album “Where The Wild Things Are“. Anders dan de naam doet vermoeden bestaat C&K sinds de laatste twee album niet meer alleen uit C-Mon (Simon Akkermans) en Kypski (Thomas Elbers) is het een full-size band. Met C-Mon achter de sampler en draaitafel, Kypski op drums én draaitafels (Kypski is viervoudig winnaar van Turntablized en weet rustig te drummen én te scratchen tegelijk), Daniel Rose op bass, gitaar en toetsen en Jori Collignon op toetsen.
Op WTWTA doen nogal wat gastmuzikanten mee zoals de Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Voicst en Pete Philly, deze kunnen natuurlijk niet allemaal mee komen, laat staan dat ze op het kleine podium hadden gepast. Dat gemis wordt kundig opgevangen met behulp van samples zonder dat het gevoelloos wordt. Vrijwel het gehele album passeert de revue, de rustigere nummers eerst. Vanaf Circus gaat het los zowel in de zaal als op het podium, met behulp van een klappertjes-pistool, roltong en andere toeters en bellen. De band heeft zichtbaar bijzonder veel plezier en nummers worden opgerekt en live geremixed en voor Eyes on the Road komt als verassing Voicst het podium op. Als eerste toegift worden Shitty Bum en The Evil Needle van het vorige album Static Traveller gespeeld en als superextragratis toegift Make My Day, normaal met Pete Philly maar nu met Jorri achter de microfoon en luidkeels meegebruld door de zaal. Conclusie: C-Mon & Kypski zijn niet alleen op band ongelovelijk goed (ik weiger de term on-nederlands goed te gebruiken, als het Nederlands Elftal wereldkampioen wordt, dát is on-nederlands goed) maar live zijn ze verdomme nog véééél beter.

About a year ago, I received some very weird spam in my junkmailbox for about 2 months. They weren’t about Viagra, penisenlargement, mortgages or sex with beautiful women. They consisted out of text. Not just random words but whole stories. Sometimes, like this one, the story isn’t complete or some parts are double, sorry ’bout that. I thought it was kind of fun in a strange way and saved them for later. They just caught my eye this afternoon and I deceided to post them over here, they are quite long and I’ve got 29 of them, so if I post one story a week, I can go on for more than half a year. Roowlant also posted a dj Shadow & Cut Chemist post on his blog and he managed to get his hands on an other mix by these two turntablejunkies plus the tracklists of the used songs. Thanks, Roowl!

It’s been a while since we’ve had a post about some good ol’ fashioned old school hiphop, so I will make up for that with two excellent mixes I stumbled upon.

The first one is a live registration from dj Shadow’s & Cut Chemist’s Product Placement On Tour. They used only 45’s and show off their mixingskills. They play some very obscure records like a Gas commercial rap, a milk commercial and stuff like that.
The second one is the Say Word mix by rjd2, which is a bit more simple but he also uses some strange records, like Joe Cocker, Betty Wright, Tears for Fears and even the theme from Knight Rider. As a bonus I’ve searched for some rjd2 videos and found two videos on Google video. One & two. Enjoy!

I really had plans on doing this lifevlog and when I saw Betsy posting one, I got that final push.

Junior and I went to Breda to see Panacea (there’s a tune from him in my contribution to this weeks Tunesday) play some records for us at the Mezz and, webjournalist as I am, I took my camera with me to shoot some footage. This resulted in 3 kick ass vids. Hope you all like it.

Oldschoolpunkweek ain’t over yet, Hank. Almost but not quite.

After all those “serious” punkbands it’s time for something less “heavy”: The Toy Dolls! They started out in 1979 and still going strong, although the line-up has changed more often than the opinion of our prime-minister and the only remaining original member is guitarist and vocalist Olga. This is their debut album, released in march 1983 and in my honest opinion, one of their best albums. The songs are about almost everything and they are amusing as hell! If Bert & Ernie would form a band, I think they would sound a lot like the Toy Dolls. Enjoy!

Yesterday morning, Ekseption organ player Rick van der Linden has passed away at the age of just 59 years. Here are some examples of the work of Ekseption.

Upcomming friday, january 27th, Mark Owen (from Take That) turns 34, hip hip hooray!
But it is also the 250th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and to celebrate this fact, the radiostation Klara from Belgium has 10 days of Mozart-madness and offers us a masterpiece a day. For free! Performed by some of the best orchestra’s, pianists and vocalists in the world (I guess, I don’t know shit about classical music). There are already four works from him online and every day until friday they will ad one. No performances of hours and hours, none of the works posted are longer than 20 minutes.
The pieces will stay online until january 30th. I will post a reminder on friday for those with bad short-term memory. Enjoy!

Joel Trussell makes some kick-ass illustrations, cartoons, sketches and animations! I found out about him when I saw his name credited at the end of this Jason Forrest/Donna Summer video and got curious about his other work. Appears he has done some more videos and a lot of illustrations.
