The Millionaires – The Millionaires

Written by Hank on Friday, July 7th, 2006 (7)

The arbeiders are drillboring just 2 meters from my front door. The noise is so hard I can’t even hear the music that’s blasting from my stereo. It’s time to hit the road. It’s time for a long drive over European highways with my wife on the passenger seat. What better music is there while driving long distances than sleazy blues/punk/hard rock?
Since I can’t hear the music because of the fucking arbeiders I give you, extrafree, this very rare record so at least someone else can enjoy it. As far as I know this record was never officially released. So today we’ll just officially release it right here on Och in the cadre of Och’s Romantic Asphalt Hits.
I am proud to present you The Millionaires from San Diego. A sleazy rock ‘n roll record where many a band can suck a point to. Perfect for driving long distances on any highway in the world with your wife on the passenger seat. Preferably in summer.

Here’s a teaser for my Honey.

And you can get the whole record right here or right here. Enjoy!

Wagner Pà y Brazuca Matraca – El Imparable Transeúnte

Written by Hank on Friday, May 12th, 2006 (11)

Every country has it’s roads and every road has it’s owm rhythm. We continue Och’s Romantic Asphalt Hits, our Pan-european road trip, on the Austrian highway. You don’t want to stop in Austria and you don’t want to spend any money here. Even if you wanted to, it’s after midnight so it’s hard to spend your euro’s in this country where it’s inhabitants start wearing an ss-uniform as soon as they can bark, which is at the age of two and where you get shot if you don’t wear your hair in a scheiding.
It’s time for some really mellow stuff. I mean, after six hours of speed metal on the Autobahn you want to relax a bit. Your loved one on the passenger seat is knikkebolling and you should drink some water so that you don’t overdose on caffein.
What better record could there be for these two hours of darkness than El Imparable Transeúnte a very easy, laidback record by Wagner Pà y Brazuca Matraca. Your loved one on the passenger seat will soon put her seat in slaapstand and replace her knikkebolling for some sweet snurking.
Keep your cafeinated drinks within handreach, the roads here do have curves and Wagner Pà’s voice can be pretty slaapverwekkish. I think some people will not appreciate this record, but hey, how often do you drive on the Austrian Highway with your loved one on the passenger seat? You don’t have to listen to it every day.
But I’m sure most people will love this record. I’d say, just download it and belook it but!

Barcelona Zona Bastarda

Written by Hank on Friday, May 12th, 2006 (3)

Next record in the series Och’s Romantic Asphalt Hits is a compilation. 17 musica mestiza songs. I think this record, Barcelona Zona Bastarda (which means I’m an Illiterate Retard) will show you that this musical style is not really one musical style but a ratjetoe of influences put together. It ranges from Drum ‘n Bossa to slow funk, from easy driving to hippy hop, from cubana to moroccojamaicano. There’s even a pretty angry chick hop song on this record. For elk some wills!
This record is perfect for driving the Routes Nationales in France, the best and easiest roads in Europe, with your loved one on the passenger seat . Start the record when you enter France, drive fast so the angry chick hop song (nummer 12) starts when you slalom the Periferique around Paris.

Enjoy!

Tonino Carotone – Mondo Difficile

Written by Hank on Thursday, May 11th, 2006 (12)

Musica Mestiza is a very broad begrip. I think the most important thing is that it is a very international music streaming. And nogal left, over the algemeen. Anti-global globalists, to make it lekker complicated.
I write this intro because all bands that will follow the revue in Och’s Romantic Asphalt Hits differ quite a bit on many fronts. This next album’s musical style for instance is almost purely north-western mediterranean. But the lyrics are more international.
Tonino Carrotone is an Espagnoitaliano. His music is intense and raw. It makes you want to sit in a Pamplonese bar with a bottle of wine and some nice tapas (I’d like a pulpo en su tinto now, verdomme), after a long hard drive over European highways with your loved one on the passenger seat, and sing along with his beautiful songs about life and the world we live in. Life which is beautiful, and a Mundo that is Difficile.

Did I write this? Jezus, what an ingewikkeld zooitje letters is this geworden. All I wanted to say is: enjoy this great, great record.

Dusminguet – Go

Written by Hank on Thursday, May 11th, 2006 (15)

The big holiday is nadering with rasse schreden so it’s time to get ready for some grande roadtrips. Driving on the best highways of Europe (that is the capital of Spain, yes) with your loved one on the passenger seat is great but it’s even better with the right music. So today I’ll start this new series. I wanted to call it Music For Driving On The European Highways With Your Loved One On The Passenger Seat but that’s too long, MFDOTEHWYLOOTPS sounds stupid so I’ll call it Och’s Romantic Asphalt Hits.
This year the series Och’s Romantic Asphalt Hits stands in the sign of Musica Mestiza, You know well, that mixture of all kinds of music. Manu Chaoish, if you like. I found an amazing amount of good quality records on the internets. It’s amazing what people put out there!
The first album featured in this series is called Go and it’s from the band Dusminguet, which is a cool sounding word in Catalan but means nothing. They are from a small town close to Barcelona. I think you can hear that from their music. It has a very nice easy vibe. It’s perfect for Italian highways, zigzagging through the traffic with an easy speed of 150 km/h with your loved one on the passenger seat, on your way to Ancona to catch a ferry to Greece. For example. But I guess it does just as well on a dutch countryroad which takes you home.

Jesus And The Gospelfuckers – Agent Orange

Written by Hank on Friday, March 3rd, 2006 (18)

In my endless quest to keep old bands from forgottelheid I stumbled upon this very rare but legendary band. I present you, in the cadres of oldschoolpunk week and dutch takke noise, Jesus And The Gospelfuckers. Without a doubt one of the most influential dutch punkrockbands, though most punkrockers don’t know that. Some highlights are the raw song Dope, the intense Alcohol and the funky gem Kill The Police.
Since Jesus And The Gospelfuckers is unlosmakelish, probably even incestuous, verbonden to Agent Orange, the ietwat later influential Amsterdam based punkrock band from the very early eighties, I give you all songs by this band as an extra in this torrent. Agent Orange is best known for it’s subtile love song Your Mother Sucks Cock In Hell but other songs, like Lingery and Herpes are of a seldom heard beauty.

The Gories – I Know You Fine, But How You Doin’

Written by Hank on Sunday, February 19th, 2006 (17)

w00t!Many years ago when Ajax, a dutch football team, won some sort of championship and all the fans were celebrating this in a barbaric manner, I went to see The Gories in the Melkweg. They did an amazing show for a pretty small audience. I bought the record, let them sign it, went home through the barbaric masses and played the record for hours.
This is one of the best records of lo-fi rock ‘n roll. Two guitarists who pretend they can’t play and a drummer with one tom and a tamboerijn is more than enough to make a perfect record.
So, in het kader van the lo-fi month, here is The Gories, ripped from vinyl in the ultimately staining format AAC. Enjoy!

Phase Six Superstereo

Written by Hank on Thursday, February 9th, 2006 (13)

After all this punkrock violence it’s time for some more relaxing stuff. Vague but relaxing. This is the perfect record for driving long distances on the nicest highways of Europe on a zwoel summernight. Your sweetheart on the passengers seat, driving fast if the song lets you and going smooth if it doesn’t.
But, since it isn’t summer yet, this is also the perfect record for thinking about driving long distances on the nicest highways of Europe on a zwoel summernight with your sweetheart on the passengers seat.
A collection of 16 songs written for italian psychadelic B-movies.

RKL – Rock ‘n Roll Nightmare

Written by Hank on Monday, February 6th, 2006 (3)

It took a long time to find this record again. I lost my original LP a long time ago and every now and then I just needed to listen to it. I’m so happy that I found my legal backup!!!
This album is so fucking good, there are no words to describe it. I’ll give it a try but don’t blame me for the crap I’m about to bloat:
The record Rock ‘n Roll Nightmare is like the Carmina Burana of punkrock, a final masterpiece, it’s like all the works of Shakespeare combined in one definitive play, it is the Mona Lisa of hardcore punk. The Rich Kids on LSD are the Mozarts of modern music, they are todays gods of the Olympus.
Fuck it, just listen.

Stupids – Peruvian Vacation/Violent Nun

Written by Hank on Monday, February 6th, 2006 (5)

It’s time for some rare Scheiße on the last day of this oldschool punk week. It’s time for the Stupids, a British thrashcore band. This is a compilation of their two fisrt records: Violent Nun and Peruvian Vacation.
Since we have some drum ‘n bassie fans here it’s nice to know that Tom Withers, the frontman of the Stupids, is, by some at least, considered as one of the pioneers in this genre. Stronger even:

“In the mid 1990s he found his true mission and began releasing the singles that would define modern drum’n'bassie”

He operates under the name Klute.
But that’s got nothing to do with what I’m posting now. In this torrent you will find 32 of the best early skatetrash songs. If that’s not enough to convince you, John Peel used to be a fan.
Start listening from song number 13. This is where Peruvian Vacation starts, which I think is their best album. Enjoy!

Minor Threat – Complete discography

Written by Hank on Sunday, February 5th, 2006 (2)

Crazy people sure do exist. Look at these lyrics:

“I don’t drink
I don’t smoke
I don’t fuck
At least I can fucking think”

No, this is no joke. This is Ian MacKaye from the band Minor Threat in the early eighties. Healthfreaks who were afraid of women. Songs about assholes who get drunk, who smoke, who are insecure. It’s actually some sort of überpunk rock. So just listen to the music if you, like me, are alergic to health, or listen to the lyrics if you want to have a good laugh. (Though, to be honest, not all lyrics are stupid, some are actually pretty good. And Minor Threat is still one of the most influential punkrock bands)
I only wanted to post the first album they released because that’s their very best, but I found the whole discography. All songs are worth a seed.

Exploited – Complete Discography

Written by Hank on Saturday, February 4th, 2006 (9)

I actually didn’t want to post about the Exploited in the oldschool punkrock week. The reason is that I don’t have their records anymore. But sometimes you just get a present. Thanks, Vilmer.
The exploited are known for their elegant style and eloquent lyrics. Wattie, a Scottisch gentleman is famous for his subtle tone when speaking to an audience. Some of his wise quotes:
“Crass is a fucking bunch of wankers”
“This next song is for Jello Biafra because he’s a fucking Faggot”
Enjoy the full discography (some rare Scheisse missing, unfortunately) of these grandparents of betonpunk in this HUGE torrent.

Reagan Youth – A Collection Of Pop Classics

Written by Hank on Saturday, February 4th, 2006 (13)

Ever wanted to know where regnyouth got its name from? It got it’s name from an antique NY hardcore band called Reagan Youth. They played midtempo hardcore punk with cynical political lyrics. They were very succesfull in the early eighties and played with bands like Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains. The band quit when Ronald Reagan left the white house. Blablablablabla
Who fucking cares. This is a fucking good oldschool punk rock record. Enjoy the lyrics and seed, motherfucker!

Bad Brains – Rock For Light

Written by Hank on Friday, February 3rd, 2006 (12)

Next record in this oldschool punk week is a strange one. Most songs are among the best punk/hardcore songs ever recorded. The singer is for sure one of the best punk singers, very good production, but the bandmembers are fucking rastafarians! Religious fanatics!
But that can’t press the fun. Listen to this fantastic album. 16 of the best hardcore punksongs mixed with 4 nice reggae songs.
A nice thing to know is that this album was originally released on white vinyl. Happy seeding:

Charged G.B.H. – City Baby Attacked By Rats

Written by Hank on Thursday, February 2nd, 2006 (18)

Let’s get on with it. It’s oldschool punk week, so every day a fucking classic. This next one is one of the first bands I saw live. Very fucking impressive for a fourteen year old kid.
G.B.H. was one of the big betonpunk bands of the 80’s. Nihilist assholes who happen to play an instrument. And they play it pretty well. Most of you probably know this record, and for those who don’t, it’s about fucking time you do. Know your history.

Crucifix – Dehumanization

Written by Hank on Wednesday, February 1st, 2006 (9)

Suddenly it’s fucking oldschool punk week here on Och. This makes me very fucking angry again. As angry as I was back in the day when everything was their fucking fault, where they, of course, is the fucking system. Damn!
To onwake this angry fucking feeling I put on (via retroplayer!) one of the very best fucking political punk records ever: Dehumanization by Crucifix. A fucking tight production, raw guitars, hard drums and a very, very, fucking very angry singer who has a nice way of hanging behind the beat now and then. Fuck, this is a good record!

Battalion of Saints

Written by Hank on Tuesday, January 31st, 2006 (4)

Yesterday I heard a version of the song Right or Wrong by the band Stool Sample. It brought back memories of long farflown times. Of times when music was good only when the singer was screaming, the guitars were loud and the drummer was hitting his gear as if he was in a real hurry to go home and drink a cup of thee with his mother, or so, you get my point.
I started looking for the original album on which Right or Wrong was featured: Second Coming by Battailon Of Saints. It took a while to find it, but with the help of R3n3, a dogmatic punkrocker in heart and kidneys, I found it. And not just that album, I found their complete discography, including a rare recording of a show they did in San Diego.
But listen to Second Coming first. The other recordings are only interesting when you’re a fan. After 5 minutes, probably.

Tributes Über Alles

Written by Hank on Saturday, January 21st, 2006 (2)

It seems like it’s Dead Kennedys week here at Och. So in my search for vague Scheiße I found some Extremely Vague Dead Kennedys stuff. I was looking for the famous Virus 100 – A tribute to the Dead Kennedys and I found it. But while searching I found three other tributes which are probably even more interesting. The first one is called What Were We Fighting For and contains mostly punkrock versions. Then I found a very rare Japanese Tribute called Got Drunk More Fuckkk with extreme Japanese punk versions. Very strange shit. But the one that’s really special is called Dread Kennedys – In Dub We Trust. This album is great. The songs are all unrecognizable if you just listen, but if you pay attention you will hear some things of the original. There are some Drum and Bassie versions, some dance/noise versions. This is the strangest Tribute To… that I’ve ever heard and it stains!
And the best thing is, all these tributes are now in this one torrent. Happy seeding and enjoy!

Dead Kennedys – Three LP’s

Written by Hank on Thursday, January 19th, 2006 (21)

I don’t live by the rule ‘Those who ask get overbeaten’. Especially not when people are crying. Now, Betsy was crying so hard, I couldn’t stand it anymore, so here you go, crybaby, three vinylrips (AAC naturaly) from the first three albums of the Dead Kennedys. And some unmissable bonustracks.

Enjoy!

Ace Of Spades

Written by Hank on Wednesday, January 18th, 2006 (12)

I made a selection of 30 Ace Of Spades covers. There is a big variety of genres, it goes from punk to metal to cockrock to hillbilly to rockabilly, psychobilly, jazz, house, finnish polka.
Many songs are probably not worth a listen but there are some very interesting versions. As far as I could hear, all songs are recorded in a studio except for Schoppen Aas which is a reversed Ochbloggish version.
Some highlights: the bizar acapella version by Paska, the jazzy one by Dino Martinis, the Remi-version by Grum Lee. And offcourse the Finnish one by Elakelaiset. Enjoy!

Nikka Costa – Butterfly Rocket

Written by Hank on Sunday, January 15th, 2006 (13)

Some artists become famous after their masterpiece. This masterpiece is then forgotten and very hard to get. This moneys also for Nikka Costa who got some fame with her funky song Like A Feather, and problably the main reason for that fame is the very sexy videoclip that accompanies the song.
The CD Everybody Got Their Something where this hitsingle is on, was a hit, and I have to say, it’s pretty good. The long expected follow-up, I won’t mention the name here, should be neglected.
Enough about the boring work. I am going to post her masterpiece here. A staining funky masterpiece. Much harder than her new work. There can’t be enough records of this kind. And these kind of records are way too hard to get. I saw this particular CD on e-bay being sold for 200 dollars. Preposterous. So today, totally free, Butterfly Rocket by Nikka Costa with two extrafree songs included. Enjoy!
