Written by Amazone on Wednesday, January 9th, 2008 (8)
I’m busy with a project at work where we use some RFID tags. We use them for a kind of fun and useful reason, in Mediamatic’s symbolic table, to give something ‘back’ for the stories we collect and to trigger reminiscing. The table is used in several senior homes where we gather with some inhabitants around the table and start watching some old movie fragments, activated by RFID tags in the movie stills cards that the seniors can choose from. Triggered by these old movies, these pioneers of inburgering tell us their stories about emigrating to Holland.
This innocent purpose is not normal in RFID-tagging, it seems. Some are still nice, some are practical but other adaptations are more verontrustend and others are downright scarying.

Written by Amazone on Thursday, August 16th, 2007 (4)Some people have time on their hands, some have money in their hands. An English filmmaker is now seeking funds for his film about the fourteen (how much?) inhabitants of a remote and isolated Norwegian island. So, do you have any money left and want to have a fourteenth share? Watch the trailer and if you feel like giving a dollar or a pound, let Steve Price know.

Electric tape calligraphy
Written by Amazone on Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 (1)Check the typography art work of this construction worker who, next to his boss, pleases 3,3 million commuters every day with his sense for style, proportion and balance.

Shuetsu Satoh does the temporary signage in Sinjuku Station, Tokio, Japan, by hand and with nothing but a stanley knife and electrical tape.
Flash piep

A while ago I celebrated my umptienth birthday and my house was filled with family and friends from afar and close.
From Ikiro I got two sets of flashing bicycleledlights and Beneger showed up with a so called vosim. For those of you who ever met him: he often brings something along with him that makes sound. (From now on that will be Balou). And then there was Choco who took a video of the bleep thingie.
This bleeping apparatus is an optically controllable vosim, a voice simulator, a simplistical optical vocal chord simulator. Continue reading ‘Flash piep’
Super duper 8!
Written by Amazone on Monday, June 18th, 2007 (5)One of the best laboratories for developing the out of date super8 films, has moved to my town. Good service, fair price and nice products.

And now they even have a load of other peoples films on the site!
Watch people travelling almost empty streets on crackly new bridges towards immense steam boats heading for Europe with nazi-flags in the masts. Or zeppelins. Or ostrich carts on Scheveningen. Or pretended flights to the North pole. From the beginning of last century unto this one.
Enjoy!

Nice camping at the lakeside, pre-season so a lot of privacy, except for the futen passing by the van.

Written by Amazone on Wednesday, March 14th, 2007 (20)The Weerribben is one of the most beautiful nature parks in the Netherlands. A former veenkolonie it is now a beautiful hideout for canoers, cyclists, hikers and people who love to have sex out in the open.
It was a beautiful spring day monday so I took farquaads bike and cycled down there to have a picnic and read my book.
We are all moddels photographers
Written by Amazone on Wednesday, March 7th, 2007 (9)
Do you know anybody without a photo camera? Me neither. If they don’t have a proper digital one, they have an analogue one, or a cellular with photo-function, or a web cam.
So everybody is a photographer now.
In Switzerland there is an exhibition going on about this phenomenon. The exhibition itself is not officially online (why?!?), but an extract is to be found here and there is an unofficial flickrgroup. Which doesn’t clarify any curatorial editing: is it a reflection of the exhibition or -at the first look- a random gathering of pictures? Because everybody is a photographer these days including your mother and you, you can also participate and upload your images here.
More about the exhibition and the accompanying debates, tours and discussions are to be found on their blog, where you can see that we just missed the live discussion with Erik Kessels, but off course there an mp3 of it.

Written by Amazone on Wednesday, January 24th, 2007 (8)
This coming saturday a new exhibition opens at ImagineIC: Van huis Uit, a show about first, second an third generation immigrants and their approach to decorate their homes with or without their immigrant roots. The installation in the exhibition is made by Michael MacMillan, whose “The West-Indian Front Room” was a starting point for this project.

Written by Amazone on Monday, January 1st, 2007 (6)In advance of my Africa trip, I promised you guys some vid’s, but the work was too busy, too hectic, I was too tired or the internets were simply not in the neighbourhoods. So therefore now in behind some panoramic movies of my Couscous&Cola Morocco to Ghana-trip.
