SKOR, doe er wat aan!

Written by on Saturday, December 18th, 2010 (5)

Weekendmovie: Sita sings the blues

Written by on Friday, April 17th, 2009 (5)

This weekend you can sit down for an eclectic and nice story. Nina Paley intertwines her own pinkbird broken heart story with the ancient stories of the Rmayana, the habit of debating the true versions of it and the beautiful smartful songs of 1920′s jazz vocalist Annette Hanshaw -”cheeks like peaches and a voice of honey“.

No one could pose like this gal did. Thank you, Betty for the nice hairdo, the commonisation of spanking and bonding and showing the fun in erotica.

Oh. Also yesterday
Enfin. We are from the generation that knows how daily life was run without computers, interwebs and blogs. Even cell phones. But the mouse is older than I am!

Happy birthday mouse!

Good ole music

Written by on Friday, December 5th, 2008 (5)

CrumbIt’s Sinterklaas again, time for that anachronistic old fellow with his questionable court dignitaries.
To show that old can still be tof, a music video avant la lettre. Eddie Thomas and Carl Scott playing ukelele, washboard and kazoo playing “My Ohio Home.” Continue reading ‘Good ole music’

Mrs. Makeba R.I.P.

Mrs. Makeba

Mrs. Makeba

The last few years, I kept on seeing announcements that Miriam Makeba was to perform in town. Only, when I noticed the dates, it happened to have been last week. So I became slightly frustrated over the wish to take my mum along to see and especially hear that special woman she introduced me to.
Then finally last month, I saw she was performing again. In Paradiso, which was a plus, because the acoustics might be very well at the concertgebouw, and the grandeur matches the grandness of this lady, it remained an odd context for a woman of such importance for music and politics in music.

Hooks and corners

Geil, customizable, but still a sleurhut. Desing has reached almost every layer of our society, so now even the most hated icon of traditionalism and conservativeness has undergone a thorough redesing. It looks quite nice, is even backed up by big automotive partners to get it beyond prototype.
But it is still the thing that will catch the wind and block your view on the freeways.
When will Top Gear get a hold of this one to destroy in a fashionable, desingy way?

Stripping days Harlem

Written by on Thursday, June 5th, 2008 (12)

Rock and Roel Haarlemmer Stripdagen fest beerYeah! It’s time again for the Stripdagen Haarlem! Every year a great event for lovers of art, music, black lines, graphics and cult.
The home style of the festival this year is delivered by Roel Smit, also known as one of the lead singers of the legendary salon punk band Human Alert. Next to the whole festivals’ housestyle, he will also design the festival beer and will present his book “Rock and Roel” at the Patronaat in Harlem. I shall probably not attend this evening because of my expected personal delivery of vl0gje, but if he/she is still in the womb, I’ll be attending the festivals’ day programme.
Ikiro, gast and IPM alert: one of the themes this year is wheels and bicycles in the special.

Yes, today is the day. The day Vl0gje is calculated, but as a proper diva (m/f) it is waiting for the party to gather momentum. I think. So let’s focus on the remaining event of the day: the arrival of the Hollandse Nieuwe. Very tasty, good firm structure, delicious and subtle of taste. Mmmmh!

Och’s Weekend Movie: Orfeu Negro

Written by on Friday, February 1st, 2008 (7)

Orfeu NegroIt’s al very charming, the Dutch carnaval, but as a good latina I am chauvinistic about the real good celebration of carnival, as being practised on the overseas continents. I have never been to Brasil just before Lent, but I am one sucker for the beats and drums to dance on during roadmarch. Be it tumba, calypso from Trinidad, samba or bossa nova. Yes, you hear it well, the cocktail-loungely muzak known as bossa is also an accompanyment of the tropical carnival. Continue reading ‘Och’s Weekend Movie: Orfeu Negro’
