They are part of our Kingdom for already 54 years, but now we can move house over there much quicker or find a job, just like is the case with the French overseas départements.Their official status is that of “special public body”.
And no, we cannot go easy gambling at Sint Maarten, because it has chosen to become a country of its own. Korsow is a buitenbeentje altogether, because short through the bend, they are the cause the Antilles as such don’t exist anymore. The island caused too much trouble, problems and made a lot of money spectacularly vanish, so the other islands didn’t have any benefit from continuing an alliance with it anymore. They are about to become a separate country too, but have to allow quite some harsh influence from Holland still in order to be acquitted of their debt. Not everyone is happy with that and the morning news showed they are not even afraid of godwins to show their point of feeling colonized again (where they do have a point).
So now we can go scuba diving on the most beautiful beaches and estuaries of our country: on Boneiru and at Saba, go there by the worlds smallest and most spectacular air strip and ikiro can go cycle up our largest mountain (887 metres), Mount Scenery, following the one road of the Island, called The Road, which is how many?! kilometres long
We have now:
an Unspoiled Queen
two volcanoes
an underwater mountain
19.180 new neighbours (how many hundred on Saba, howmanythousand on Bonaire)
speaking English, no Dutch
The Bottom
Hell’s Gate
Windwardside
St John’s
Fort Bay
Well’s Bay
Oranjestad
Mount Scenery
Mazinga Peak
Two Schools of Medicine, the Saban onebeing a University
Seven kinds of bats
The second oldest synagogue in the Western hemisphere
National parks filled with mangroves, rain forest and corals.
Yeey!
UPDATE: There is only a round table conference today, the Antilles as such do keep existing after today. It all is hopi ingewikkeld…
