Sundaynight Rock ‘n’ Roll part4 – Blue Cheer

October 22nd, 2006 by *--*

In the past few weeks I have been slowly going back in time, investigating the essentials of nice, blues based hard rock ‘n’ roll. Today I proudly present you one of the cornerstones of the genre. The very foundation on which a lot of this music was built.
Blue Cheer came from the whole acid rock scene in California but completely rewrote the book on the kind of music that fits to that image! They are even named after a certain type of LSD (which was in its turn named after a laundry detergent). ‘Vincebus Eruptum’ is their debut album from 1968 and what a statement it is! Primal heavy heavy bluesrock. The opener of the album is a cover of ‘Summertime Blues’ originally by Eddie Cochran. The Cheer’s version is a few sniffs of speed above the original I would say. The rest of the album rocks like hell also! Listen to this album and then think of what happened in the 90’s with bands like Monster Magnet etc…
I say PRELISTEN HERE and get your fix here:
